Caustics
Resin surfaces that bend light into patterns
This project is a physical exploration of how material geometry can manipulate and manifest light. Using resin as a medium, the experiment focuses on the direct relationship between non-uniform surface topologies—evoking the jagged, faceted impression of a glacial form—and the resulting optical phenomena.
By deliberately varying the thickness and angles of the cured resin, the object functions as an unpredictable physical lens. As incident light passes through the complex contours, it undergoes intense internal reflection and refraction, trapping the light within the form while casting intricate, fluid caustics onto its surroundings. The final output is not merely a static sculpture, but an active tangible medium that captures and redefines the behavior of light.
